MS.c Physics

Programme Structure

I. Eligibility
Subject to the provisions of the CBCS regulation adopted by the University, academic qualification for admission to M.Sc. (Physics) Programme shall be: “A Bachelor Degree with a minimum of 55% marks in the aggregate of science subjectswith Physics as one of the main subjects and Mathematics (or, Mathematical Physics/Mathematical Methods etc.) as another subject. A relaxation of 5% in marks is granted to SC/ST candidates.”

II. Curriculum
(a) The M.Sc.(Physics) Programme is spread over four semesters.
(b) Sixty credits from core courses and a minimum of twelve credits from elective courses are to be earned for the successful completion of the Programme.
(c) Out of the electives, a minimum of six credits is needed to be earned from elective courses offered from the Department of Physics.
(d) Electives can be taken in any semester and in any order.

III.General Instructions 
(a) The teaching hours mentioned for various courses are indicative only. In the course of teaching, and especially in elective courses, the instructor (teacher) can include more hands-on practical sessions than mentioned in the syllabus and replace lectures hours with practicals. Practical work can also be included for assessment (evaluation).
(b) Assessment of student performance (evaluation) shall be done by the teacher, in accordance with the provisions in the academic regulations.

Ph.D Physics

Eligibility MSc Physics with minimum 55% in the qualifying examination
Duration of the MPhil Phase Two semesters each of six months duration
Admission Admission shall be based on admission test and interview. Those who are qualifying in the UGC/CSIR NET may be exempted from the admission test.
Course Credits Each candidate will be required to complete core courses and elective courses and dissertation work totalling to a minimum of 36 credits.
Programme Structure for the MPhil Phase The MPhil Phase shall be of 2 semester duration and shall consist of (a) Core courses (b) Elective courses (c) Seminars (d) Project work
