Student's Council Activities
The Students’ Council is a student body comprising 40 student representatives of which 20 members are elected and 20 members are nominated representing the respective departments. The Council also has an Executive Committee composed of 10 members. The President, two Vice Presidents, the General Secretary, two Joint Secretaries and four Executive Committee Members are the office bearers of the Students’ Council. The first Students’ Council of the University was sworn in on December 7, 2012. During its tenure, the Council conducted various academic and extra- curricular programmes and initiated several student welfare measures. During the historic event of the foundation stone laying ceremony for its permanent campus of the University at Periye, the Students’ Council organised two Spectacular Vilambara Jadha (Proclamation Rally) inviting the public to participate in the programme. The Council organised the National Youth Day Celebration and a debate was conducted o n You th and So ci al Reformation on January 12, 2013 in connection with the 1 50 th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. The Council organized World Wetland Day Celebration on February 2, 2013. The University Arts Day - ‘Rhythm 13' was a historic event organised by the Council to encourage the great talents of our University. Famous play back singer G. Sreeram inaugurated the programme. Writer P. Surendran delivered the felicitation addres s. Hon’bl e Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jancy James presided over the function. The Adhar Registration e Programme was also organised by the Students’ Council in both the campuses. More than 100 students, teachers and staffs registered their names for Adhar.
The Students’ Council initiated two important initiatives - The Blood Donors Forum and the Nature Club. The Blood Donors Forum is a forum of students, teachers and staff who are willing to donate blood. At present, Mr. Santhu John is the coordinator of Blood Donors Forum. The Nature Club was formed to organise various nature related programmes and to take up eco friendly initiatives. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jancy James is the Chief Patron and Dr. G. M. Nair is the Patron of this Club. Dr. Sinu. P A. is the co-ordinator of the Nature Club.The Students’ Council took up problems regarding various student welfare issues such as fellowships, facilities etc. and successfully resolved them during its term.
The character of CU-Kerala is reflected in the vibrant, thriving student body it attracts every year. Every year, the student body organises several activities to mark national and international festivities, to raise awareness on meaningful social issues and also participates in cultural fests and sports competitions across the country representing the university with great pride. Some of the events and activities our students have been involved in over the last academic year are as follows:
Gandhi Jayanthi 2013 was celebrated nd on 2 October. As part of the Celebrations, the students cleaned the premises of the University. Photo exhibitions were held to mark United th Nation’s Day on 24 October 2013 and th World Human Rights Day on 10 December 2013. Festivals like Onam, Christmas and Eid are all celebrated by the students and staff of the university with equal fervour and enthusiasm every year.
The Central University of Kerala also th participated in the 29 South Zone Inter University Arts Fest held at Bangalore University named “Yuvajanotsav” 2013-2014 from 19th -23th December 2013. The university contingent won various prizes including second prize in sport photography and several A grades for various items. Students also actively represented the University at the National Sports and Games Meet 2013-14. CU-Kerala’s Cricket Team participated in the South Zone competition of the Inter University Cricket Competition held at Pondicherry University, Puducherry th nd from 12 till 22 December 2013. The University Badminton team also participated in the Inter University th Badminton Competition from 15 to 19 January 2013 at Manipal University, Manipal. The University Football team participated in the Inter University Football Competition held at th M.G. University, Kottayam, from 18 to nd 22 December 2013.
