Central University of Kerala releases Gender Audit Report

Periya: In a bid to increase women's representation and ensure gender justice, Central University of Kerala has come up with a gender audit report. The University's first gender audit report was prepared by the Centre for Women's Studies under the direction of Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu. The committee consisting of Dr. Ashalakshmi (Convenor), Dr. P. Supriya, Dr. Uma Purushothaman, Dr. Jayalakshmi Rajeev and Dr. E. Prasad (Members) handed over the report to the Vice-Chancellor.

The report, which was prepared by looking at all areas like students, teachers, staff and infrastructure development points out that the university has better women-friendly infrastructure. Buggies for women and women-friendly rooms are examples of the same. An internal system is also in place to investigate and take action on violence against women, the report said.

The report also asserted the importance of increasing the representation of women in key decision-making bodies. While women are found more involved in childcare and sanitation, in the security wing the number is less. The report sought actions to ensure gender-neutral participation. Speaking during the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Venkateshwarlu said the university is committed to a women-friendly campus. Several steps have been taken to ensure the participation of women, further action will be taken after examining the report, he added.
