CUK English Department with a Collection of Diasporic Stories


Periye: The English Department of the Central University of Kerala has published an anthology of diasporic stories in Malayalam titled 'Akasham Mathram Kanunna Veedukal' (Houses that only See the Firmament'. This has been published as part of the courses in the M.A. English syllabus on Diaspora Fiction and Translation Studies. This is the first phase of the workshop project received by the Department.
Out of more than 200 stories received from the public, the best 26 stories were selected by the MA. English students Sheril Johnson and Mridul C. Mrinal, Shruthi Mishra, Sithara Kumar, Vismaya C.H., Navami Govind and Krishna Prasad and the Ph.D. English researchers Parvathi M.S. and Sreelakshmi M. The editing and critical analysis have been done by Dr. B. Efthikar Ahamed, Assistant Professor of the Department.
Published by Thrissur Current Books, the students are currently busy completing the English translation of this collection.

Governor Arif Mohammad Khan was presented the first copy by the CUK Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwaralu and released the collection. Head of English Department Dr. Joseph Koippally, Registrar Dr. Muraleedharan Nambiar, Dr. B. Efthikar Ahamed also attended the launching function.
