REPORT ON “COMMEMORATION OF PARTITION HORRORS REMEMBRANCE DAY”


Central University of Kerala organised a Seminar on “Commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” on 14th August. The Seminar was organised in the backdrop of India celebrating seventy-seven years of Independence, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.

The Seminar began with an inaugural session, in which Prof.Joseph Koyippally (Executive Council Member and Dean, School of Languages and Comparative Literature) formally inaugurated the Seminar. Dr. Uma Purushothaman and Dr. Jilly John spoke in the inaugural session. The seminar progressed with three academic sessions based on three themes about Partition – “Depiction of Partition in Literature”, “Gender and Partition, and “Different Perspectives on Partition”. All the speakers gave diverse presentations on different topics under these umbrella themes.

The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony in which Prof . Vincent Mathew, Director of Research, delivered the valedictory address and Dr. Ashalekshmi B.S proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Seminar emerged to be a platform for retrospection of the unparalleled horrors that followed India- Pakistan Partition.
