Students from the Central University of Kerala embarked on a unique educational journey - immersing themselves in a 10-day Tribal camp organized in Kuttikol Panchayat. Named 'Oorarivu', the camp was initiated by first-year postgraduate students from the Department of Social Work. Vice Chancellor (i/c) Prof. K.C. Baiju flagged off the journey. Dr. M. Nagalingam, the Head of the Department and Camp Coordinator, Prof. A.K. Mohan, Mr. Ramanand Kodoth, Dr. Raneesh, Dr. Rajendra Baikadi, and Student Coordinators Alfred Vincent and Arsha Pradeep, actively participated. Stationed at Kuttikol Government High School, an announcement march marked the commencement of the camp, which will continue until December 1. The inauguration of the camp will be held on 23rd November by Kuttikol Gram Panchayat President H. Murali. Ward Member P. Madhavan, Kuttikol Govt. High School Head Master A. Bhaskaran, and PTA President P. Suresh will speak during the event. The Panchayat has 90 tribal colonies and 4 Oor Kuttam with around 5000 tribal population. Mavilan and Malavettuvan tribes are living in the Panchayat.
The camp objectives are: 1.) To understand the Tribal/Rural/Urban social system, structures related to decision making and the nature of government intervention with special reference to a specific group. 2.) To examine the programme implementation and interventions of both the voluntary organizations and the governmental agencies in relation to the specific group. 3.) To provide experience in group living to break self-centered thinking and to learn the importance of cooperation and collaboration. 4.) To provide opportunity for the learners to plan, organize programmes and mobilize resources.
