All languages have their own significance, Kerala Central University Vice-
Chancellor Prof. K.C. Baiju said. Speaking at the inauguration of the two-
day international seminar on ‘Ancient Kannada Literature: Ways of
Reading held in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and the
Center of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada, Central Institute of
Indian Languages, Mysore, he said that the cultural and historical
background of Kasaragod is helpful for the further growth of the Kannada
language.Kuvempu University retired professor, Prof. Kumara Chalya, in his keynote
address urged to change the prevailing apathy towards ancient Kannada
literature. If you reject ancient Kannada literature, you are rejecting
contemporary Kannada literature too, he added.
Dean of the University’s School of Languages and Comparative Literature,
Dr. Joseph Koipalli spoke and recalled G.N Devi’s words that if India gets
the Nobel Prize in Literature, it will go to Kannada first. He went on to say
that it is because ancient poetry can be read against the backdrop of
almost all modern literary theories that it is still alive today.
Kannada Department Head, Dr. Soumya H welcomed, Project Director of
Center for Advanced Studies in Classical Kannada, Prof. M.N Talwar
