West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose said that education is the best weapon for social transformation. It should enable one to do the right thing at the right time, he added. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 7th Convocation ceremony of the Central University of Kerala.
Education is emancipation, empowerment, and enrichment. Every graduate from here is the agent of the future to bring about changes in society. The governor also pointed out that women's education is very important. Through the education of women, education is imparted to the family, society, and the country. He added that ‘Narishakti’ is going to lead the country.
In his welcome speech, Vice Chancellor (i/c) Prof. K.C. Baiju narrated the advancement and development activities of the university. Controller of Examinations Dr. R. Jayaprakash proposed vote of thanks. Registrar Dr. M. Muralidharan Nambiar, Court Members of the University, Executive Council Members, Academic Council Members, Finance Committee Members, People's Representatives, Deans, Heads of Departments, Students, Teachers, Staff etc. attended the events. More than 1500 people witnessed the grand ceremony which took place at a specially prepared venue near Vivekananda Circle in the campus.
Graduation was given to 957 students who completed their studies in 2023. 40 people were awarded Bachelor's degree, 843 Master's degree, 58 PhD degree and 16 PG Diploma degree. The Governor directly awarded the degrees to the selected students. Guests, students and teachers participated in the program in traditional attire. In addition to the white dress, different coloured shawls also graced the occasion.
Governor Announces Surprise Awards to the University
The Governor, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, announced the awards as a surprise gift to the university at the convocation ceremony. The governor will give awards to the First Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Jancy James and three others in the categories of students, teachers, and staff. The first Vice Chancellor will get Rs 50000 along with a plaque and citation and Rs 25000 for others along with a plaque and citation. The winners will be decided by the jury later. Governor's ADC Major Nikhil Kumar made the announcement on the stage. The audience greeted the announcement of the award with applause. The Governor started his speech by saying that he started his career as the sub-collector of Kasaragod and visiting here was nostalgic. It is his first visit to the Central University of Kerala, however, he recollected that Prof. Jancy James used to discuss things from its inception. The governor recalled the discussions and efforts that took place including the land issue.
Governor Presents Gold Medal to top scorers
The Governor resented gold medals to the students who achieved high marks. Akhila K.V. (Commerce and International Business), Amrita A.S. (Management Studies) and Anusha K (Mathematics) were awarded the medal. The University is in the process of awarding the gold medal to all the departments of study in the coming years, which was introduced to encourage the academic activity of the students.
