The Department of Physics, in collaboration with the Swadeshi Science Movement (Vigyan Bharati Kerala Chapter), successfully conducted a two-day hands-on workshop on Satellite Communication on the 4th and 5th of September 2024. This workshop aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge and skills in satellite communication, offering them a unique opportunity to engage directly with satellite technology.
The sessions were led by former ISRO scientist Dr. B.A. Subramani, who guided the participants in using receivers and antennas to collect, decode, and analyze satellite signals. Registrar Dr. M. Muralidharan Nambiar inaugurated the workshop. Head of the Department Dr. E. Prasad, and Vigyan Bharati South India Organizing Secretary R. Abga also addressed the gathering.
The closing ceremony, presided over by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Prof. Vincent Mathew, featured the distribution of certificates to winners of the competitions held during the event. Notable speakers at the ceremony included Prof. Swapna S. Nair and Dr. P.M. Aneesh.
Over 150 students actively participated, gaining valuable insights into the world of satellite communication and space technology. The workshop was organized as part of the National Space Day celebrations, during which the Physics Department also hosted a science quiz and a lecture series.
