Swachhata Hi Seva 2024; CUK Students Lead Coastal Cleanup Drive at Punjavi Beach


In observance of World Coastal Cleanup Day and as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, students from the Central University of Kerala removed over seven quintals of waste from Punchavi Beach in Kanhangad.

The cleanup effort involved the university's NSS unit, the Center for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE) under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, Sabari Club, Nileswaram Coastal Police Station, District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), and Sagar Mitra Volunteers. Starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until noon, volunteers collected and sorted scattered plastic waste, which was later handed over to Mahyoobah Eco Solutions for proper disposal. A beach sculpture was also created during the event, led by Ramesan Naduvil.

The event was inaugurated by Registrar Dr. M. Muralidharan Nambiar, with Sub-Collector Prateek Jain IAS serving as the chief guest. Speakers included Swachhta Hi Seva Nodal Officer Prof. Manu, CMLRE Scientists Dr. B.R. Smitha and C.R. Asha Devi, Fisheries Extension Officer Arunendu, Technical Officer Dr. V. Sudheesh, Senior Civil Police Officer E. Ratheesh, Sabari Club Secretary Babu, and NSS Volunteer Vishnu Prasad.
