In the event of celebrating the importance of World Mental Health Day every year on 10th October, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre for Extension Services (APJAKCES), the Central University of Kerala in collaboration with the Department of Yoga Studies, Central University of Kerala organized a webinar on 10th October 2021, Sunday, on the topic ‘Mental Health Issues during the Pandemic’. The webinar was conducted via the Zoom platform and the duration of the session was from 10.00 AM till 11.00 AM. The worldwide theme of this year for the day was ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World. Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu, University Vice-Chancellor was the Patron and inaugurated the session giving a valuable message depicting the importance of maintaining good mental health during the pandemic .Dr. Ravish Thunga A, the Consultant Psychiatrist and Director of Thunga Institute of Psychiatry and Counselling, Mangalore and the most experienced doctor in the field of mental health, was the Chief Guest. Dr. Mohan A.K, Director, APJAKCES as well as Dean, School of Social Sciences and Head, Department of Social Work, Central University of Kerala,Dr.H P Gurushankara, Asst. Professor, Department of Zoology and executive member of APJAKCES, Central University of Kerala, Dr.Subramanya Pailoor, Academic Coordinator, Department Yoga Studies, Central University of Kerala, Deans, Professors and all other faculty members from other departments, research scholars and students, Central University of Kerala attended the session. The resource person quoted ample incidents from his experience to explain the importance of maintaining good mental health during the pandemic. The talk mainly pinpointed the mental health issues among children and youth concerning depression, drug abuse, etc. The importance of Yoga in dealing with mental issues was also pointed out during the session.
