Periye (Kasaragod): There is a need to rebuild the education model where special attention is given to the Indian knowledge system, said Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhas Sarkar. The knowledge of the rich heritage of India has to be imparted to students in the country, he added. The minister was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of the Round Table Conference of Vice-Chancellors across India on National Education Policy (NEP) at the Central University of Kerala.

India has a long history of holistic and multidisciplinary learning. From the times of Nalanda and Takshashila, India has been the centre of learning. This was achieved by the contribution of gurus and acharyas who helped the students to inculcate human values, knowledge, and skills. The Gurukula provided an opportunity for the all-round development of the students. The minister reminded that ancient India has contributed immensely to the world in various fields such as astronomy, medicine, mathematics, yoga, surgery, civil engineering etc.

Education helps in spreading knowledge in society which is perhaps the most important aspect of it. Furthermore, there is a transfer of education from generation to generation. Higher education plays an extremely important role in promoting human and societal wellbeing that is insisted in the constitution of India offering liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice to all.
