Centre for Women's Studies, Central University of Kerala has organized International Women's Day celebrations


Centre for Women's Studies, Central University of Kerala has organised International Women's Day celebrations. The function was inaugurated by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu. In his inaugural speech, he addressed the demographic statistics of the Central University of Kerala and the importance of gender-friendly culture in all kinds of institutions. 

 

This year's Women Achiever Award was given away by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor to Dr. T. Vanaja ( Associate Director of Research (North zone) Kerala Agricultural University, Kerala). Prof. Moly Kuruvilla (Founder Director, Dept. of Women Studies, University of Calicut) addressed the occasion with the women's day message that was with regard to the UN theme "break the bias, break Stereotypes" and mentioned that the root cause for women's struggle rests within cultural and heritage biases of our society. 

 

She suggested the Centre for Women’s Studies, CUK take lead in women empowerment and developmental programmes all over Kerala, especially in the north. Dr. Santhosh Kumar N, Registrar, CUK felicitated the function. Further prize distribution for various events conducted by CWS was done by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor.  

 

The panel discussions included Dr. Uma Purushothaman as moderator, Prof. M.S. John, Prof. K. J. Thomas, Dr. Laxm, Dr. Swapna S Nair, Mr. Sureshan Kandathil and Ms. Divya Satyan. Dr. Jayalakshmi Rajeev, Coordinator of the programme delivered the Vote of Thanks. A gender sensitivity discussion session was organized in the afternoon with the whole faculty and staff by the CWS. Prof. Moly Kuruvilla was the Resource person of the session.
