CUK launches Mission for Health and Development 

 

Periya: With an aim to address health issues in rural and tribal areas, the CUK launched the Mission for Health and Development programme in the district. Speaking during the event held at Pullur, Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu said that the University is committed to working for the development of the health sector in the district. Through various projects, the University is aiming at the development of society. Plans will be formulated for social service in other areas as well, he said. He emphasized the linkage between health and development and the importance of focusing on the health of women as they play a critical role in moulding society and the future citizens of the country. He said that the mission will primarily involve health prevention activities such as early screening for diseases, health awareness sessions, and skill development programs. The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the District Collector, MLA, and Panchayat President for their support. 

 

The programme was attended by Pullur Periya Panchayath member Mr. Narayanan, medical team and faculty of CUK,  Dr. Arathi R Nair and Dr. Kannan A.S, Dr. Subramanya Pailoor,  Dr. Elezebeth Mathews and the students of Yoga and Public Health. A medical kit consisting of iron tablets as well as ORS packets were also distributed to the camp attendees. A health awareness session was conducted by Dr. Vrinda Madhavan, Department of Yoga Studies, CUK, followed by a session on yoga by Ms. Sajna Chandran, final year student of the department of yoga studies. The medical camp was attended by 67 residents from the Pullur Periya Panchayath. 

 

 

The Central University of Kerala has initiated the “Mission for Health and Development” recognizing its role beyond education and academics. Under this mission, the University has envisioned outreach activities that aim to engage and act as a catalyst to address the health and developmental challenges faced by the local community, particularly the disadvantaged populations. A multidisciplinary team from departments of  Social Work, Public Health and Community Medicine, Yoga, Aravalli Centre for Health and Medical Services and the National Social Service Scheme volunteers under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu and District Collector, Smt Bhandari Swagat Ranveerchand will actively engage to identify and address the health and development needs in alliance with the existing public service system.
