Independence Day is a time to recall the history of its vibrant people, glorious culture, and proud achievements, said Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof.H. Venkateshwarlu. It is awakening the nation through a festival to the fulfillment of the ever-aspiring dream of global peace and development, he added. He was addressing the staff and students of the Central University of Kerala during the flag hoisting ceremony conducted at the Periye campus.
War veterans including Subedar Major & Honorary Captain Vijayan Nair M V, Subedar Major & Honorary Lieutenant Mohanan Nair K., Subedar Major & Honorary Lieutenant Lakshmanan K, Subedar K.P. Balakrishnan, Ex Sgt Kannan V, Junior Warrant Officer K Ramakrishnan, Havildar A. Appukkutta Poduval, Squadron Leader Narayanan Nair, Brigadier T.C.Abraham etc. were honoured as a part of Independence Day celebrations. The Vice Chancellor also felicitated CUK staff who made an outstanding performance. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the campus. A freedom cycle Rally was also conducted as part of the celebration.
Dean, Student Welfare Prof. K. Arun Kumar coordinated the event. Dean Academic (i/c) Prof. Amruth G. Kumar, Registrar (i/c) Prof. Rajendra Pilankatta, Controller of Examinations (i/c) Prof. M.N. Musthafa were also present. The Vice Chancellor also inaugurated the new Bamboo Garden project on the campus by planting a sapling. A total of 75 plants signifying 75 years of independence were donated by Prof. M. Dasan, former Dean of English and Comparative Literature, CUK who personally attended the inauguration.
